And the Winner is…

Ellis Elementary wins the most 2019-2020 Nevada PTA Awards

Two years ago, a new elementary school opened its doors. Named for one of Clark County’s most philanthropic couples, Robert and Sandy Ellis Elementary immediately became the school where parents wanted their children to learn and connect. This is why, although still in its infancy, Ellis Elementary has already earned the Bob Huwe Community Engagement Award, the Outstanding PTA Achievement Award, and more PTA awards than any other PTA in the state.

“We are honored to win these awards, on behalf of all the staff and parents,” said Ellis Elementary PTA President Tamara Nelson. “The Inspirada community has been enthusiastic since day one to help us succeed, and their support elevated our school to be truly one-of-a-kind in the state of Nevada.”

The top honor, the Outstanding PTA Achievement Award, is given to PTAs that qualify for Gold PTA achievement award, had an increase in membership, 75 percent staff membership, and participated in three National PTA sponsored activities.

Nevada PTA Winner

“Nevada PTA awards recognize the tremendous efforts of PTA volunteers and units across our state to strengthen school-family partnerships and support children,” said Rebecca Garcia, Nevada PTA president.

“Thank you to the families, staff, and community members who devote their time and effort to helping further PTA’s mission to make every child’s potential a reality.”

The Bob Huwe Community Engagement Award

The Bob Huwe Community Engagement Award is given to one PTA in Nevada every year for working within their community to collaborate and strengthen family-school partnerships. The Ellis Elementary PTA nominated member Melisa Eichbauer, general manager of Findlay Volkswagen Henderson, for her work promoting student achievement through scholarship programs, sponsorships and donations.

In January, the dealership teamed up with Generosity Feeds to help food-insecure Clark County children. The event drew more than 500 volunteers who packaged 10,000 meals and raised more than $10,000 in donations.

“It is a privilege to support the hard work that PTAs do for our community’s students,” Eichbauer said. “I hope that through our contributions we inspire others to help when they can and most importantly that the students know they are loved and matter.”

The award honors former Washoe County principal and longtime member of Nevada PTA’s Board of Managers, Bob Huwe, who advocated for community involvement within schools. Huwe demonstrated his belief that effective community engagement improves student success by encouraging and implementing several community-sponsored programs within the schools he led.

The Ellis PTA also won the following accolades:

Men Matter Membership Award – Given to PTAs that foster a positive atmosphere for, and actively recruiting membership of, men in their PTAs.

Membership Campaign of the Year Award – This award recognizes a PTA that has an outstanding membership campaign, which not only increases membership but promotes PTA and its purpose throughout the school and community.

Membership Increase Award – Awarded to PTAs who have shown an increase in membership as compared to 2018-2019 school year.

Apple Award – Awarded to PTAs with 100% staff membership.

Robert and Sandy Ellis Elementary School opened in August 2018, the first CCSD school to open in Inspirada, a planned community in West Henderson. It’s named for Robert and Sandy Ellis, well-known philanthropic partners of the Clark County School District, and led by Principal Dr. Shaun Cochran-Hall.
