Building Community

We sat down with local Mom, Megan, to learn more about owning My Gym Summerlin and how she decided to bring educational fun to Summerlin and the Las Vegas community.

Tell us some fun things about yourself and My Gym Summerlin.

“I’m a former teacher turned stay at home Mama. We moved here to Las Vegas with our two sons. Our four and a half year old was missing his weekly routine of My Gym classes and playdates. So in my newborn, sleep-deprived, new state living, late nights, I decided to bring My Gym here to Summerlin. Here we are open and bringing all the fun to local families.”

My Gym Summerlin isn’t just a playground – can you tell us what it is?

“We are a children’s fitness and recreational gym. We offer children ages 6 weeks to 12 years old an introduction to education and sensory stimulation through music physical play. Our classes vary from Parent and Me to independent floor classes and drop off STEAM camps (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics.) We also throw themed structured birthday parties and offer once a month Parents Night Out drop-off events.”

What are the benefits for new mothers and infants when becoming a member?

“It gives not only new parents a chance to socialize, but your little ones too in a clean safe and intimate environment. We introduce them to cognitive, sensory and physical learning all while teaching new parents the benefits of each skill and stage of growth and exploration. The gym also allows each parent to witness their little ones gain confidence and independence.”

Can you talk a bit about the importance of socializing children safely in regards to Covid and what My Gym Summerlin is doing to keep the gym sanitized?

“We have taken extra precautions in keeping our class sizes small. We santize all equipment in between classes and have a nightly cleaning crew come to deep clean. Anyone over the age of nine needs to wear a mask, do temperature checks and hand sanitizing upon arrival.

We also know our little ones have been affected during these Covid times. Babies need socialization at an early age to help aid in development and stimulation. As an owner this has been my number one factor in remaining open. Not only as a mother myself, but as a UNLV graduate with a BS in Child Development and Education, I understand the importance of letting our little ones experience new sounds and textures daily.”

Raising kids in Vegas – what are your thoughts and how does My Gym Summerlin play a role?

“As a mom my motivating factor for opening My Gym Summerlin was my own son who attended a My Gym in California prior to us moving here. He missed his teachers and classes so much and I missed seeing him gain his confidence while learning through play. Here in Las Vegas we have so many transplants, like myself, that finding a sense of community, structure and routine can be hard for your little ones. Especially being a parent before the school age years.”
